What's involved in the application form?
You'll need to request an application form from your preferred force. You'll find details on their website.
The first thing you might notice is how long the application form is! Please don’t let this put you off applying. All you need to do is take things one step at a time, complete each section, and answer all the questions with honesty.
Typically, the application form will ask you about:
- Your personal details (like full name, date of birth and address)
- Any convictions
- Your financial situation and any business interests
- Any tattoos you have
Some forces include some competency and/or values-based questions in their application form. If so, this would be a good time to read the College of Policing's Competency & Values Framework to help you prepare.
Recruiting forces want to get to know you, not just your personal information. If they ask, be sure to emphasise the positive qualities and transferable skills that you can bring to the role. Think about your motivations behind applying to the force you have chosen and the difference you can make to the communities it serves.
