Domestic Abuse Investigator

If you’re thinking about joining the police because you want to make a real difference to people's lives and protect the most vulnerable members of society, you’ll find this role especially rewarding. You’ll be specially trained in investigation duties to identify the perpetrators of domestic abuse and associated offences.

You’ll be supporting victims, achieving the best outcomes for them and their families. Key to this role is ensuring that victims are safeguarded and that any evidence obtained is recorded, secured and preserved in a timely and appropriate manner.

Here are some of the other aspects of this role:

  • You’ll interview witnesses, victims and suspects and gather all required evidence to support the investigative process, ultimately in order to bring offenders to justice
  • Complete risk assessments and provide appropriate support for victims during an investigation
  • You’ll formulate a victim safety plan to ensure their safety and wellbeing and provide information so they can access all available support services
  • Use designated powers to arrest, apprehend and issue special warnings where necessary in accordance with legislation and policy
  • And work in partnership with other agencies, such as social workers and health professionals to develop networks to enable a joined up approach and drive safeguarding of victims

It goes without saying that you’ll have good communication skills with the ability to listen to others and you’ll need good working knowledge of child protection procedures and protection of adults at risk. Don't worry though, you'll receive all the training and support you need to help you in your role.

This is just one of the roles you can progress to within your police career. Why not explore other specialist roles?
